Newest Bears Take Positive Steps

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears concluded their three-day rookie minicamp with their third and final non-contact practice Sunday at Halas Hall.

The rookies then scattered across the country, heading home following their first taste of the NFL. Draft picks, undrafted free agents and possibly even a few of the tryout players will return to Lake Forest May 20 when the Bears begin organized team activity (OTA) workouts.

Draft Catch Up

Speedy Knox Excels

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Fifth-round draft pick Johnny Knox, a wide receiver from Abilene Christian, stood out on Day 2 of Bears rookie minicamp, catching four passes during 7-on-7 drills Saturday.

Northwestern Pair Chase NFL Dream

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Teammates at Northwestern the past four seasons, quarterback C.J. Bacher and receiver Eric Peterman are chasing their NFL dream together just up the road from Evanston.

The two former Wildcats are participating in this weekend’s Bears rookie minicamp at Halas Hall, Peterman as an undrafted free agent and Bacher on a tryout basis.

Gilbert Displays Quickness

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Even without pads, Bears third-round draft pick Jarron Gilbert looked the part while participating in his first NFL practice Friday afternoon at Halas Hall.

The 6-5, 288-pound defensive lineman from San Jose State displayed quickness and athleticism in individual drills as the Bears opened their rookie minicamp with the first of three non-contact workouts.

Rookies at Mini Camp

AKE FOREST, Ill. – Juaquin Iglesias realized a dream last Sunday when he was selected by the Bears in the third round of the NFL Draft. But it didn’t truly sink in until Thursday when the Oklahoma receiver arrived at Halas Hall.

“Once you get drafted, you see your name roll across the screen,” Iglesias said. “But it doesn’t really hit you until you get here. Once you pull up at the gate where it says ‘Chicago Bears,’ that’s when it started hitting me. And I’m happy to be here. I’m excited and I’m just ready to go.”

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Cornerback D.J. Moore is only 5-foot-9, but the Bears aren’t concerned that the fourth-round draft pick is too short to excel in the NFL.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Bears on Monday signed the following undrafted free agents: UNLV guard Johan Asiata, Hampton guard Dennis Conley, Connecticut safety Dahna Deleston, Louisiana-Lafayette running back Tyrell Fenroy, Rutgers linebacker Kevin Malast, Northwestern wide receiver Eric Peterman, Kansas linebacker Mike Rivera, California fullback Will Ta’ufo’ou and Louisville defensive back Woodny Turenne.
